Pugwash Farmers’ Market Cooperative Limited is a registered non-profit organization of members who elect a volunteer Board of Directors to govern and manage the market and oversee the work of the contracted Market Manager.
Our Mission
Pugwash Farmers’ Market is a nonprofit cooperative focused on the wellbeing of our community, by encouraging social and environmental responsibility and supporting a sustainable agricultural and artisanal base in rural Nova Scotia.
Our Vision
Pugwash Farmers’ Market – the advocate for local food sustainability and sovereignty,* a leader in small business incubation and cultivation, a champion and educator for environmental responsibility in our community.
*food sovereignty as “the right to healthy and culturally appropriate food produced through ecologically sound and sustainable methods, and the right to define our own food and agriculture systems.”
Our Core Values
Food Access:
Safe and nourishing food is an inherent right for everyone. We work to overcome barriers to provide fresh local food and promote its benefits to health and wellness in our community.
Community Strength:
We believe that collaboration, inclusion, representation, cooperation, and accessibility are the cornerstones of our community. We welcome and initiate ways to work with other organizations, businesses and the village to improve the quality of life in Pugwash and area.
Buying Local:
We aim to provide a welcoming, accessible and supportive venue for our members who grow, make, and/or bake goods and products to sell directly to the public.
Advocacy & Education:
We advocate and raise awareness for environmental responsibility and sustainability by modelling and promoting best practices for a Zero Waste and Circular Economy.
Economic Development & Incubation:
We support the incubation of small entrepreneurial businesses and believe that buying local serves to enliven and strengthen economic and tourism activity.
