Pugwash Farmers’ Market is proud to announce the creation of an exciting new space opening at the market site for the 2024 season. Our goal is to provide a community space for business incubation, to promote local food and sustainability initiatives, and to spark conversation around food security and zero waste initiatives.
Currently equipped with stainless steel worktops, a convection oven, induction stovetop, microwave, fridge, handwashing and dishwashing sinks, The Market Hub hosts two counters for customer service space, and will be open during the regular Saturday market with offerings from two local vendors: We are excited to announce that Fusions Indian Cuisine and Chama bakery will be joining us for our inaugural market season.
Located in the east end of the old train station, in what was once the “Gentleman’s Waiting Room,” The Market Hub has come to life through the efforts of the Pugwash Farmers’ Market Board of Directors, particularly President Pat McGinnis and Vice-President Jennifer Houghtaling, as well as tireless labour of local contractor, Mike Cunningham. Both they and their teams deserve massive thanks and congratulations for a masterful renovation and a job well done.
We have also received generous funding support from Build Nova Scotia, the Municipality of Cumberland, Community Credit Union of Cumberland, and the Pugwash and Area Community Health Board.
We appreciate the support of the Village of Pugwash, who have offered us a generous lease agreement for use of the space, and look forward to working with our neighbours, the North Cumberland Historical and Genealogy Society to keep the precious building lively and a community resource for years to come.
In addition to Saturday vendor space, we also plan to makeThe Market Hub available for Pugwash Farmers’ Market Cooperative members for rental as a commercial kitchen and/or pop-up service space on non-market days.
Light café service is also planned for Thursdays and Fridays starting in late-May with locally roasted espresso and handcrafted beverages. Other seasonal café offerings will be based on availability of local produce and supplies.
