Zero Waste & Circular Economy Movement

– We’re In This Together –

Goals:

  1. Waste Reduction – to significantly reduce the amount of waste generated both at the
market and when customers get home
  2. Diversion – to divert all the organic waste and recyclable materials discarded at the
    market away from the landfills
  3. Closing the Loop – to promote the use of post-consumer recycled products
  4. Education – to encourage shoppers and vendors to reduce, reuse and recycle both at the market and beyond.

Packaging Restrictions:

The following vendor items are not permitted to be distributed at the market:

  • Plastic water bottles
  • Plastic straws
  • Plastic cutlery
  • All styrofoam (polystyrene) items

Review our Sustainable Packaging Initiative.

2026 Objectives:

  • To reduce the use of all single-use plastics as much as possible
  • To reduce unsustainable packaging by vendors overall (eg. paper)
  • To continue to educate the public on sustainable, reusable practices
  • To design a social media campaign through signage, contests, promotions and events to support these objectives
